The Secret Garden is a fabric site-specific installation for the Iris Garden in Florence.
The artwork has been created through a collaborative action of embroidery, knitting, crochet and needlework contributions.
It stems from a collaboration between a group of children and adults, who worked together to the creation of an imaginary garden, a fantasy world made of flowers, butterflies, and fairy-tale creatures, playing between reality and imagination and responding to the real garden.
The installation intertwines with the park like a garden within a garden: the colours and the textiles of the installation create a fantasy vision – a tale that the artist will invite to discover.
The project starts from the kid’s drawings inspired by the lures of the garden, myths and legends, tales such as The Kensington Gardens and great masterpieces such as Botticelli’s Primavera.
A group of ladies built on the children’s imagination and created a fabric artwork during a number of meetings, weaving a dialogue between different worlds and generations.
